Kissing by the River

We're right into the heat of editing wedding photos for our clients and we're quite happy with the results. Patty-Lou and I thought it would be fun to add some of this summer's images to our flash site www.photographybyramin.com. The image below is one of our favourites of the summer. Ottawa Oil Painter & Ottawa Wedding Photographer

2 Busy Artists

As far as Ottawa Wedding Photography goes, so far it's been a busy summer. Our season started with a blast of engagement shoots and an easy string of weddings to photograph. We've been having a wonderful time with our wedding couples. You can check out our blog at http://www.photographybyramin.com/ . On the painting side of things, Patty-Lou will be showing one of her works for the Summer 2009 Teachers Exhibition at the Ottawa School of Art. The exhibition opening night is Thursday July 30th at 7pm, and it should prove to be a good time. Somewhere in all of our business we managed to find a little bit of spare time to go on a four day visit to Sudbury and beautiful Kilarney.

The First Week of the Tulip Festival

It was the first week-end at the Ottawa Tulip Festival, and as an official artists of the festival, I was asked to paint a few sessions throughout the week. Although it was a bit windy I managed to paint for a full session at Major Hill Park. It was quite the experience painting outdoors with plenty of visitors to chat to. I am looking forward to painting next Sunday, May 10th at Dow's Lake from 2pm - 6 pm.

Ottawa Tulip Festival 2009

We have both submitted works to the Art Tent at the Ottawa Tulip Festival this year. I have painted in acrylics this time (they are quick drying and I had a dead-line). Also, I am one of the festival Official Artists and will be painting on both Sundays that the festival will be running. Ramin enlarged one of his favourite tulip photos taken in 2006, he's especially excited about this one because he caught the tulips around 5:30 am before the sun could dry up the morning frost. Hope to see you at the tulip festival.

The Ottawa School of Art has extended itself to the new Shenkmen Arts Centre in Orleans. Patty-Lou will be teaching a class in drawing portraits as well as a class in painting portraits, both classes will be ten sessions.

This class teaches basic techniques for drawing portraits. We will begin the course working with pencils, develop skills with conté, and work our way up to coloured paper and pastels. It is not only the new techniques that will be learned and applied, yet how we learn how to see light and shadow that will help us draw wonderful portraits.

Holiday Sale

We have both submitted works to the Ottawa School of Art holiday sale which opens on November 27th, 2008 in the school art gallery. Ramin submitted this wonderful image of Long Beach, B.C., titled "Pacific Lovers". Patricia has submitted a group of little works of collage. You can see their works from November 27th - December 20th, 2008.

Wow!!!
Regional Contact (CTV) is doing a show about us!!!

They filmed us all day Tuesday March 18th. We started at the Arboretum with snowshoeing and by noon they came to visit our gallery and studio at home. Both Joel (the host of Regional Contact) and Randy (the cameraman) were very delightful to work with. They made the day enjoyable and we can't wait to see the show, which will air on April 5th! Learn the fundaments of drawing with a cozy cup of tea at your side. With winter approaching this class offers a warm atmosphere to learn basic techniques and perspectives of drawing. We will begin with basic shapes using pencil, working our way to drawing still-life with conte. For our final project we will create a wonderful still-life with pastels! Each week we will highlight a different tea during our break.

We saw this beautiful deer on one of our snowshoeing expeditions. He was so calm. It was nice to be able to get as close as we did to him. It was so lucky that Ramin had a 70-200 2.8 L IS canon lens with him. I think I might even do a big oil painting of this beauty (if Ramin doesn't mind me using this great image).

Congratulations Lisa & Richard!

It was a wonderful wedding for a perfect couple. Although it was a very hot day, they managed to handle the photo session very well. I am thrilled with the results and happy to tease the newlyweds with these three photos. I can't wait to give them the whole package.... soon.

The Arboretum was full of new blooms, it was nice to see nature coming back to life, and as a photographer I could not ask for anything more! I had a really good time taking these engagement photos, and it seems these couples had a good time as well.
